Learn what makes the Sasi Small wall lamp unique, who it suits best, and when to consider an alternative. Practical advice for choosing a brass wall sconce.
Quick answer
The Sasi Small wall lamp in brass is a decorative sconce that provides soft, indirect light through a polished inner reflector. It works best as an accent piece in a dimly lit hallway or reading nook, not as a primary task light.
Why the Sasi Small stands out among brass wall lamps
The Sasi Small uses a two-layer design: an oval satin-brass outer shade and a smaller polished-brass inner disc that acts as a mirror. This creates layered reflections and a warm, indirect glow that many solid-shade sconces cannot produce.
The lamp is designed in collaboration with Dutch designer Rick Tegelaar. Its sculptural look makes it a focal point even when the light is off, which is a key consideration if you want the fixture to contribute to your decor during the day.
Trade-off: decorative focus over utility
Because the LED module is integrated and the light is reflected off the polished disc, the Sasi Small delivers a gentle, ambient glow rather than a concentrated beam. It will not illuminate a full room or serve as reading light.
If you need a wall lamp for task lighting—such as beside a bed or over a desk—look for a fixture with a downward-facing or adjustable shade. The Sasi Small is best reserved for mood lighting or accenting a specific wall area.
Decision rules for the Sasi Small wall lamp
- Choose the Sasi Small if: You want a decorative brass sconce that doubles as wall art, and you need a soft, indirect glow for a hallway, corner, or reading nook.
- Pass on the Sasi Small if: Your primary need is task or reading light. The Sasi Small's indirect output will not provide enough focused illumination for activities like reading or working.
- Consider placement carefully: Because the light is reflected off the polished disc, the lamp works best on a wall where it can bounce light off a nearby surface. Avoid placing it in a very large, dark room where the effect may be lost. Test the lamp in your actual space if possible, as the reflective effect changes with wall color and distance.
